Samsung introduced a smartphone with a curved display

As BBC reports, the South Korean company Samsung Electronics introduced a smartphone with a curved display Galaxy Note Edge at the exhibition in Berlin.

One of the most important and the world`s largest exhibitions of consumer electronics IFA-2014 was opened in Berlin on September 5. Experts say that smartphones and mobile computers are the main themes of this year at IFA, because users update them more frequently than tablets and laptops.

Samsung introduced its new products without waiting for the opening of expositions.

During the presentation of Galaxy Note Edge, the company`s representatives emphasized the fact that the curved display provides a new way to access frequently used applications. One edge of the smartphone`s display curves, making a narrow side strip functional, even in the time when the rest of the display is covered with a case.

In addition, the public was presented a virtual reality helmet Gear VR, the next version of the smartphone Galaxy Note 4 with a large display and "smart watches".

The latest virtual reality helmet is the result of collaboration between Samsung and Oculus, owned by Facebook. The helmet is paired with Galaxy Note 4 – it uses audio and the smartphone`s display, which diagonal is 5.7 inches (14.5 centimetres).

Samsung, the world's largest mobile phone producer, is going through hard times now. Thus, the second-quarter net income fell by almost 20%, but the rate reductions occurred for the first time in nearly three years (since the third quarter of 2011).

According to research company IDC, Samsung`s share of the smartphone market decreased in April-June to 24.9%, compared with 32.2% in the second quarter of 2013.
